Remanufacturing the Cartridge:
1. Samsung provide two types of cartridge for the ML-3050, the Standard A cartridge with a yield of 4000 pages and the Hi-Cap B cartridge with a yield of 8000 pages.
2. Both cartridges are chipped
Step 1:
1. Remove both end plates from each side of the cartridge
2. Each end plate is held in place by 3 screws
Step 2:
1. Running through the centre of the cartridge is a metal bar which is used the hold the OPC drum in place, and to complete a contact with the OPC drum and Printer. To secure the metal bar in place two small plastics fittings are used on either side of the cartridge.
2. To remove these two plastic fittings use a small flathead screwdriver to lift them from the cartridge.
3. Make a note of from which side of the cartridge they are taken, as placing them back wrongly will results in the print cartridge not fitting the printer correctly.
Step 3:
1. Lift away the Foam roller housing.
Step 4:
1. The cartridge drum unit will part from the hopper unit.
2. Take precaution when lifting the OPC unit away from the Hopper unit, as the OPC drum unit is no longer secure.
Step 5:
1. To remove the Developer roller – using a small flathead screwdriver lift out the plastic fitting which holds the roller in place.
2. Remove the gear from the other side of the roller
3. Lift the roller away from the Hopper unit.
Step 6:
1. In our testing we used a damp (with water) cotton cloth to clean the Developer roller.
Step 7:
1. Clean the Doctor-Blade with a Q-Tip – making sure the surface is clear from any residue or contaminates.
Step 8:
1. Using a small flathead screwdriver lift out the filler cap.
Step 9:
1. Removing the OPC drum (Including metal Bar) & PCR Roller – gains access to the waste section of the cartridge.
2. We cleaned the PCR roller with a damp (with water) cotton cloth
3. The OPC drum was cleaned with a soft dry cotton cloth
Step 10:
1. The metal bar which runs through the OPC drum completes a circuit – care must be taken when removing this metal bar, as contained within the OPC drum is a copper contact.
2. The below flash video shows how we removed the plastic end cap which also contains the copper contact points:
